Indications
Lopresor R (Metoprolol) is indicated in the treatment of arterial hypertension, in the prevention of cardiovascular events in patients with a history of myocardial infarction, and in the management of angina pectoris. It is also used in the treatment of chronic stable heart failure, as well as in controlling heart rate in patients with arrhythmias. Metoprolol is a selective beta-blocker that works by decreasing the frequency and strength of heart contractions, which results in a reduction in blood pressure and the heart's workload.
Composition
Each Lopresor R tablet contains: Metoprolol 95 mg. Excipients: lactose, starch, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
Lopresor R is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to metoprolol or any component of the formula. It should not be administered in cases of severe bradycardia, second or third-degree atrioventricular block, decompensated heart failure, and in patients with bronchial asthma or severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with diabetes mellitus, as metoprolol may mask the signs of hypoglycemia. Likewise, it is recommended to monitor patients with liver or kidney disease, and those who are undergoing treatment with other antihypertensives. Use in the elderly requires vigilance, given the risk of orthostatic hypotension.
