Indications
Lomotil is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea. It is suitable for the management of diarrhea caused by bacterial infections and can be used as an adjunct in the treatment of intestinal diseases. The combination of diphenoxylate and atropine acts by reducing intestinal motility and increasing anal sphincter tone, which helps decrease the frequency and urgency of bowel movements. Its use is recommended for adults and children over 2 years of age under medical supervision.
Composition
Each tablet contains 2 mg of diphenoxylate and 0.025 mg of atropine, in addition to excipients necessary for the formulation of the medicine.
Contraindications
Lomotil is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of its components, in cases of diarrhea due to bacterial colitis (e.g., Salmonella, Shigella), and in conditions where anticholinergic effects should be avoided, such as closed-angle glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, or in patients with severe inflammatory bowel disease.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of substance abuse, as well as in those with hepatic or renal insufficiency. Close monitoring is recommended in patients with persistent diarrhea to prevent dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. Prolonged use without medical supervision is not recommended.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light and out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
