Indications

Lacosamide is indicated as adjunctive treatment for partial-onset seizures in adults and children over 4 years of age with epilepsy. This medication may be used in patients who have not responded adequately to other antiepileptic treatments. Lacosamide works by stabilizing electrical activity in the brain and reducing the frequency of seizures.

Composition

Each tablet contains 100 mg of lacosamide as the active ingredient. Excipients include: microcrystalline cellulose, starch, talc, magnesium stearate, among others.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lacosamide or any of the excipients in the formula. It should not be administered in cases of severe hepatic insufficiency or in combination with medications that prolong the QT interval.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of heart disease, as lacosamide can cause an increase in heart rate. Adequate monitoring is recommended in patients with a history of arrhythmias. Additionally, the possibility of adverse reactions such as dizziness or drowsiness should be considered, and driving or operating heavy machinery should be avoided until the response to treatment is known.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children.
