Indications

Irbesartan is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults. It is also used to reduce the risk of developing kidney disease in hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes and a history of kidney damage. Its mechanism of action is based on the inhibition of angiotensin II receptors, resulting in vasodilation and decreased blood pressure. The medication can be administered alone or in combination with other antihypertensives.

Composition

Each tablet contains 150 mg of irbesartan as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients such as microcrystalline cellulose, starch, and magnesium stearate.

Contraindications

Irbesartan is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to irbesartan or any of its excipients. It should not be used in patients with a history of angioedema related to previous treatments with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and during pregnancy and lactation.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when administering irbesartan to patients with renal artery stenosis, renal insufficiency, and those with a history of angioedema. Renal function should be monitored in patients initiating treatment with the medication. Its use should also be considered in patients with cardiovascular diseases or who require surgery.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place and out of reach of children. Avoid direct sunlight exposure.
