Indications

Fosfocil is indicated for the treatment of urinary tract infections, including acute cystitis and pyelonephritis, caused by microorganisms sensitive to fosfomycin. It is also used in complicated urinary tract infections, as well as in upper and lower respiratory tract infections, when pathogen sensitivity has been confirmed.

This medication works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the death of pathogenic bacteria. It is particularly effective in treating infections caused by Escherichia coli and other Gram-negative bacteria.

Composition

Each 5 ml of suspension contains 250 mg of fosfomycin (as trometamol). Excipients: purified water, flavoring, preservatives, and thickeners.

Contraindications

Fosfocil is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to fosfomycin or any of its components. Its use is not recommended in patients with severe renal failure or in those with a history of allergic reactions to antibiotics.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of kidney or liver disease. Renal function monitoring is advisable during treatment, especially in elderly patients or those with predisposing conditions. Its use is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation unless strictly necessary and under the supervision of a physician.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date printed on the package.
