Indications

Fosfocil is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections sensitive to fosfomycin. It is primarily used for urinary tract infections, including uncomplicated acute cystitis. It can also be used for soft tissue infections and in some cases of respiratory infections. Fosfomycin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, which results in the death of susceptible bacteria. It is important to perform a culture and antibiogram to ensure the microorganism's sensitivity to the treatment before starting its use.

Composition

Each Fosfocil ampoule contains 1 g of fosfomycin (as fosfomycin trometamol) in 4 mL of injectable solution.

Contraindications

Fosfocil is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to fosfomycin or to any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be administered in cases of severe renal insufficiency or in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to other antibiotics.

Precautions

Caution is recommended in patients with a history of kidney disease, as fosfomycin is primarily eliminated by this route. It is important to monitor renal function during treatment. Additionally, the use of Fosfocil should be considered in patients who are receiving other medications that may affect renal function or that are excreted by the same system.

Storage

Fosfocil should be stored at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C, protected from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
