Indications

Dapagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This medication is used to improve glycemic control in adults, in combination with diet and exercise. It can also be used as monotherapy in patients who cannot receive metformin. Dapagliflozin helps reduce blood glucose levels by promoting glucose excretion through the urine, which contributes to a decrease in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c). Additionally, it has been shown to reduce the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in patients with diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Composition

Each Dapagliflozin tablet contains 10 mg of dapagliflozin, as well as excipients such as microcrystalline cellulose, starch, and magnesium stearate.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to dapagliflozin or any of the excipients in the formula. It should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (Glomerular Filtration Rate < 30 mL/min).

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of recurrent urinary tract infections, dehydration, or those taking medications that may affect renal function. It is important to monitor renal function periodically during treatment. Cases of ketoacidosis have been reported in patients using SGLT2, so one should be alert for symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

Store in a cool, dry place, at room temperature, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
