Indications
Clamoxin is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by amoxicillin-susceptible microorganisms, especially in respiratory tract infections, otitis media, sinusitis, skin and soft tissue infections, as well as urinary tract infections. It is also used in the treatment of dental infections and in the management of mixed infections where the presence of β-lactamases is suspected. The combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid provides a broader spectrum of antibacterial activity, making it effective against resistant strains. It is important that the use of this medication is based on the results of cultures and sensitivity tests, if available.
Composition
Each Clamoxin tablet contains 500 mg of amoxicillin and 125 mg of clavulanic acid.
Contraindications
Clamoxin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to penicillins, clavulanic acid, or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should also be avoided in cases of a history of jaundice or hepatic dysfunction associated with the use of amoxicillin/clavulanic acid.
Precautions
Clamoxin is recommended to be used with caution in patients with a history of liver disease, kidney disease, or in those with gastrointestinal disorders. Close medical monitoring is essential during treatment, especially in patients with severe infections. Furthermore, renal function should be assessed in elderly patients or in those with risk factors for renal failure.
