Indications
Bonviva is indicated for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Osteoporosis is a condition characterized by decreased bone density, which increases the risk of fractures. Ibandronic acid acts by inhibiting osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, helping to maintain or increase bone mineral density, which can reduce the incidence of vertebral and non-vertebral fractures. This medication is recommended for women who have experienced a previous osteoporotic fracture or who have risk factors for developing osteoporosis.
Composition
Each Bonviva tablet contains 150 mg of ibandronic acid, as well as excipients necessary for the product's formulation.
Contraindications
Bonviva is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ibandronic acid or to any of the product's excipients. It is also contraindicated in cases of hypocalcemia, meaning low blood calcium levels, as well as in patients with esophageal disorders that delay the evacuation of the medication. Its use is not recommended in patients with severe renal insufficiency.
Precautions
Before initiating treatment with Bonviva, a complete medical evaluation is important. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of gastrointestinal problems, such as esophagitis or gastric ulcers. Adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D is recommended during treatment. Furthermore, regular medical follow-up is essential to assess the efficacy of the treatment and the patient's bone health.
