Indications
Tolterodine is indicated for the treatment of symptoms of overactive bladder, including urinary urgency, urinary incontinence, and urinary frequency. It is especially useful in patients who experience symptoms of abnormal urine storage, which can compromise their quality of life. This medication acts as an anticholinergic, blocking muscarinic receptors in the bladder, which reduces involuntary contraction of the bladder muscles. Its use is recommended in adults and the geriatric population, always under medical supervision.
Composition
Each Tolterodine tablet contains 2 mg of tolterodine tartrate as the active ingredient, as well as excipients necessary for the product's formulation.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to tolterodine or any of its excipients. Its use is not recommended in patients with urinary retention, narrow-angle glaucoma, or myasthenia gravis. Additionally, caution should be exercised in patients with obstructive gastrointestinal diseases.
Precautions
It should be used with caution in patients with liver or kidney disease, as well as in those receiving concomitant treatment with other anticholinergic medications. It is important for patients to inform their doctor about any other medical conditions they may have, as well as other medications they are taking to avoid adverse interactions. The possibility of central nervous system-related adverse effects should be considered, especially in the geriatric population.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C, and keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the packaging.
