Indications
Terfhicid, whose active ingredient is nitrofurantoin, is indicated for the treatment of urinary tract infections caused by susceptible microorganisms, such as Escherichia coli and Enterobacter aerogenes. It is effective in the treatment of acute cystitis and other uncomplicated urinary infections. It can also be used for the prophylaxis of urinary tract infections in patients with frequent recurrences. Nitrofurantoin acts by inhibiting protein synthesis and bacterial cell metabolism, which contributes to its bactericidal effect.
Composition
Each Terfhicid capsule contains 100 mg of nitrofurantoin as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients such as starch, gelatin, and other inactive components that facilitate the formulation of the medication.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to nitrofurantoin or any of the excipients in the formula. It should not be used in cases of severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 60 ml/min), as well as in patients with severe liver diseases. It is also contraindicated during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester, due to the potential risk to the fetus.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in its use in patients with impaired renal function, as this may increase the risk of toxicity. Likewise, it is recommended to evaluate pulmonary function in patients receiving prolonged treatment, due to the possible occurrence of pulmonary adverse effects. It is important to monitor for the appearance of adverse reactions and discontinue treatment at any sign of toxicity.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at room temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
