Indications
Telmisartan is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults. This medication works by blocking angiotensin II receptors, which results in the dilation of blood vessels and, consequently, a reduction in blood pressure. It can also be used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with hypertension and other risk factors, such as type 2 diabetes with kidney involvement. It is important that the use of Telmisartan be part of a comprehensive regimen that includes lifestyle changes, such as a proper diet and regular exercise.
Composition
Each tablet contains 40 mg of Telmisartan as the active ingredient. Excipients: Lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Telmisartan or any of the excipients. It should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of angioedema associated with treatment with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors or with severe liver disease.
Precautions
Caution is advised in patients with renal insufficiency, heart failure, and in those who are being treated with diuretics. It is important to monitor blood pressure regularly and adjust the dose as needed. Likewise, the possible interaction with other medications the patient is taking should be considered.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C, in a dry place and out of reach of children. Protect from direct light.
