Indications

Telmisartan is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults. This medication acts as an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, which results in a reduction in blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure can contribute to a decreased risk of cardiovascular events, such as myocardial infarction and strokes. Telmisartan can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensives.

Composition

Each tablet contains: Telmisartan 40 mg, excipients: lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, among others.

Contraindications

Telmisartan is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to telmisartan or any component of the formula. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor treatments. Its use is not recommended in pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as in patients with severe renal insufficiency.

Precautions

Telmisartan should be used with caution in patients with a history of liver disease, moderate renal insufficiency, and in those taking diuretics or medications that affect the renin-angiotensin system. Renal function tests should be performed before and during treatment. Special care should also be taken in patients over 65 years of age, as well as in those who present with dehydration or hypovolemia.

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
