Indications
Telmisartan is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults. It helps reduce blood pressure and, therefore, decreases the risk of cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction and stroke. It is used as monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensives to achieve better blood pressure control. This medication works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a compound that causes vasoconstriction and fluid retention, which contributes to the elevation of blood pressure.
Composition
Each Telmisartan tablet contains 40 mg of telmisartan as the active ingredient, as well as excipients that favor its stability and absorption.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to telmisartan or any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of angioedema related to previous treatments with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors or in those with severe renal failure.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of hypotension, renal artery stenosis, moderate hepatic or renal insufficiency, as well as in those undergoing diuretic treatment. During pregnancy and lactation, this medication should only be used if strictly necessary and under medical supervision. It is important to monitor blood pressure and kidney function during treatment.
