Indications
Telmisartan is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults. This medication works by blocking angiotensin II receptors, which contributes to lowering blood pressure. It can also be used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with hypertension and associated risk factors, such as type 2 diabetes or dyslipidemia. Regular blood pressure monitoring is recommended to evaluate treatment efficacy.
Composition
Each Telmisartan 40 mg tablet contains:
- Telmisartan: 40 mg
- Excipients: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
Telmisartan is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to telmisartan or to any of the excipients in the formula. It should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor treatments.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of kidney, liver, or cardiovascular diseases. It is important to evaluate renal function before and during treatment. In patients over 75 years of age, more frequent monitoring of blood pressure and renal function should be considered. The possibility of hyperkalemia in patients with diabetes or those on diuretic treatment should also be taken into account.
Storage
Store in its original container at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
