Indications

Tamsulosin is indicated for the treatment of urinary symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men. Tamsulosin acts as a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist, which causes relaxation of smooth muscle in the prostate and urethra, thus facilitating urinary flow. Symptoms it can relieve include difficulty initiating urination, weak urine stream, frequent urination, and the sensation of incomplete bladder emptying. This medication is especially useful in patients with moderate to severe BPH symptoms. It is important to note that tamsulosin is not a curative treatment for BPH, but rather provides symptomatic relief. The duration of treatment should be determined by a healthcare professional, and may require regular monitoring to assess the response to the medication.

Composition

Each Tamsulosin Cap Lp 0.4 mg capsule contains Tamsulosin as the active ingredient, as well as excipients that facilitate the prolonged release of the drug.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to tamsulosin or to any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in patients with a history of orthostatic hypotension or in those receiving concomitant treatment with other alpha-blockers.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of cardiac rhythm disturbances, liver or kidney failure, as well as in those exposed to situations that may cause dehydration. Tamsulosin administration may cause dizziness or drowsiness, so it is recommended to avoid activities requiring mental alertness until the individual response to treatment is known.
