Indications
Soliqua is indicated for the treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and adequate exercise to improve glycemic control. It is used in patients who have not achieved adequate control with metformin alone or in combination with other oral antidiabetic drugs. It can also be administered to patients requiring basal insulin treatment, allowing for an effective combination of insulin and a GLP-1 agonist to optimize blood glucose control. Patient selection should be made considering the efficacy and tolerability profile of previous treatment.
Composition
Each pen contains: 100 units of Insulin Glargine (equivalent to 100 IU/mL) and 33 mcg of Lixisenatide.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to insulin glargine, lixisenatide, or any of the excipients. It should not be used in episodes of diabetic ketoacidosis. It is not suitable for the treatment of type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of pancreatitis, as acute pancreatitis has been reported in some patients treated with GLP-1 agonists. The possibility of hypoglycemia should also be considered, especially in patients performing activities that may increase the risk of this condition. Regular monitoring of blood glucose levels is recommended.
Storage
Store refrigerated between 2 °C and 8 °C. Do not freeze. Once opened, the pen can be stored at room temperature (not above 30 °C) for a maximum of 28 days. Keep out of reach of children.
