Indications
Prontol is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension and for the prevention of cardiovascular events in patients with a history of myocardial infarction. It is also used in the management of angina pectoris and in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. Metoprolol, its active ingredient, works by blocking beta-adrenergic receptors, resulting in a decrease in heart rate and blood pressure, thereby improving cardiovascular function and reducing the heart's workload.
Composition
Each Prontol tablet contains 100 mg of metoprolol as the active ingredient. Excipients: corn starch, lactose, talc, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to metoprolol or any of its excipients, as well as in those with severe bradycardia, second or third-degree atrioventricular block, decompensated heart failure, or cardiogenic shock. Its use is not recommended in patients with bronchial asthma or uncontrolled chronic obstructive respiratory diseases.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Prontol to patients with diabetes mellitus, as metoprolol may mask the symptoms of hypoglycemia. Likewise, patients with hepatic or renal disorders should be monitored. It is important to adjust doses in the elderly and in those with pre-existing cardiac conditions.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children.
