Indications

Pravastatin is indicated as an adjunct to diet for the treatment of patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia, with the purpose of reducing total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and apolipoprotein B concentrations. It is also used in the treatment of patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, as well as for the reduction of the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with established coronary heart disease or in those at risk of developing it, including those with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The administration of Pravastatin should be considered in the context of a comprehensive approach that includes lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise.

Composition

Each tablet contains: 10 mg of Pravastatin and excipients necessary for the formulation.

Contraindications

Pravastatin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pravastatin or to any of the components of the formula. It is also contraindicated in patients with active liver disease and in those with unexplained persistently elevated transaminase levels. Its use is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of liver disease, alcoholism, or in those taking other medications that may affect liver function. It is crucial to monitor liver function before starting treatment and during therapy. Regular liver function tests are recommended. Additionally, the risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis should be considered, especially in elderly patients or those receiving high doses of Pravastatin.

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
