Indications

Piperacillin/Tazobactam is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to its components. It is used in complicated abdominal infections, urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, as well as soft tissue and skin infections. This medicine is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including strains resistant to other antibiotics. Its use is recommended in patients with severe infections where the involvement of multi-drug resistant bacteria is suspected or in cases where empirical therapy is necessary.

Composition

Each vial contains 4 g of Piperacillin (as sodium salt) and 0.5 g of Tazobactam (as sodium salt).

Contraindications

This medicine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Piperacillin, Tazobactam, other beta-lactam antibiotics, or any component of the formulation. Caution should also be exercised in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to other antibiotics.

Precautions

Renal function should be evaluated before initiating treatment, as Piperacillin is primarily eliminated via the kidneys. In case of renal insufficiency, the dose should be adjusted. Care should be taken when administering this medicine to patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases, especially colitis, as it may increase the risk of developing pseudomembranous colitis. Furthermore, monitoring for adverse reactions during treatment is suggested.

Storage

The product should be stored in a cool, dry place, at temperatures not exceeding 25°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
