Indications

Pioglitazone is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This medication is used in patients who have not achieved adequate blood glucose control with metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin alone. It can also be used in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents or insulin when glycemic control is insufficient.

Composition

Each Pioglitazone 30 mg tablet contains:

  • Pioglitazone (as hydrochloride) 30 mg
  • Excipients: Lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and others.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pioglitazone or any component of the formula. It should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. It is also contraindicated in patients with New York Heart Association class III or IV congestive heart failure.

Precautions

It is recommended to evaluate liver function before starting treatment and to monitor it periodically during use. Risks of edema, weight gain, and fractures should be considered. In patients with a history of heart failure, special caution should be exercised, and the risk-benefit ratio should be considered.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children.
