Indications

Pioglitazone is indicated as adjunctive treatment in adult patients with type 2 diabetes. It is used in combination with other oral antidiabetics and/or insulin when diet and exercise do not achieve adequate blood glucose control. This medication improves insulin sensitivity and helps control glucose levels, thereby contributing to the regulation of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism.

Composition

Each tablet contains 15 mg of pioglitazone. Excipients: corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, among others.

Contraindications

Pioglitazone is contraindicated in patients with a history of congestive heart failure, active liver disease, as well as in those with known hypersensitivity to pioglitazone or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of edema, hypertension, or those being treated with other medications that may cause fluid retention. It is important to regularly monitor liver function during treatment, as well as to evaluate for signs of heart failure. Pioglitazone may increase the risk of bone fractures, especially in older women.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children.
