Indications
Pioglitazone is indicated in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, as an adjunct to diet and exercise, in adults. This medication is used in patients who have not achieved adequate blood glucose control through diet and exercise alone. It can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetics or insulin.
Pioglitazone acts as a PPAR-gamma receptor agonist, which improves insulin sensitivity in tissues, facilitating blood glucose level control. Additionally, it may have beneficial effects on the patient's lipid profile.
Composition
Each Pioglitazone tablet contains 15 mg of pioglitazone, in addition to excipients that allow for the formulation of the medicine.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pioglitazone or to any of the components of the formula. It is also contraindicated in patients with congestive heart failure, active liver disease, and in those with a history of bladder cancer.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when using pioglitazone in patients with a history of heart failure, as well as in those with risk factors for developing heart failure. Liver function and the presence of edema should be monitored during treatment. Regular monitoring of blood glucose levels is also recommended.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
