Indications
Pioglitazone is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, either as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic drugs or insulin, when diet and exercise alone do not achieve adequate blood glucose control. This medication works by improving insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues, which contributes to the reduction of blood glucose levels. Additionally, it can be used in overweight or obese patients who exhibit insulin resistance.
Composition
Each Pioglitazone tablet contains 15 mg of Pioglitazone as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients that facilitate the formulation of the product.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Pioglitazone or any of the components of the formula, in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, congestive heart failure, or active liver diseases. It should not be used during pregnancy or lactation, unless strictly necessary and under medical supervision.
Precautions
Careful monitoring is recommended for patients with heart failure or a history of heart disease. Caution should also be exercised in patients with a history of bone fractures or at risk of developing bladder cancer. It is important to adjust the dose in case of impaired liver and kidney function.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
