Indications

Pharben is indicated for the treatment of non-productive cough in various respiratory conditions. This medication acts as an antitussive that helps suppress the cough reflex in the brain, resulting in a decrease in the urge to cough. It is useful in cases where coughing can be irritating or painful, such as in acute or chronic respiratory infections, as well as in the context of obstructive pulmonary diseases. Pharben should not be used to treat cough with sputum production, as it may hinder the expulsion of pulmonary secretions. Its use should be evaluated in the context of clinical conditions where cough is a predominant symptom and symptomatic management is required.

Composition

Each Pharben capsule contains 100 mg of benzonatate as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients necessary for the formulation of the medication.

Contraindications

Pharben is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to benzonatate or any other component of the formula. It should not be administered to patients who have severe respiratory distress or who suffer from uncontrolled chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases. It is also contraindicated in children under 10 years of age due to the risk of severe adverse reactions.

Precautions

Caution is recommended in patients with a history of allergic reactions to local anesthetics, given that benzonatate may have a similar mechanism of action. The use of this medication together with other cough suppressants should be avoided, unless under strict medical supervision. Furthermore, care should be taken when administering the medication to patients with central nervous system diseases, as well as those with a history of seizures.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
