Indications

Pentoxifylline is indicated for the treatment of intermittent claudication in patients with chronic peripheral arterial disease. It is also used in the management of microcirculatory disorders, such as diabetic retinopathy and Raynaud's disease. Its action is based on improving blood flow by reducing blood viscosity and improving red blood cell deformability, which in turn facilitates circulation in areas affected by vascular insufficiency. Additionally, it may be useful in the treatment of venous ulcers and in certain conditions related to cerebral circulation.

Composition

Each tablet contains: Pentoxifylline 400 mg. Excipients: Lactose, starch, magnesium stearate and other excipients.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pentoxifylline or to any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be administered to patients with active bleeding, such as gastrointestinal bleeding or cerebral hemorrhages. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe renal insufficiency or those with severe hepatic insufficiency.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when using pentoxifylline in patients with a history of peptic ulcers, as the risk of bleeding could increase. In addition, it is recommended to monitor patients with coagulation disorders or those receiving anticoagulants, due to the potential increased risk of bleeding. It is important to inform the doctor about any other medications the patient is taking to avoid adverse interactions.

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children.
