Indications
Oxivag is indicated for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, as well as for the prevention of fractures in patients at high risk of fracture. It is also used in men with osteoporosis and in the treatment of bone diseases related to corticosteroid use. Its main action consists of inhibiting bone resorption, which contributes to increasing bone mineral density and decreasing the risk of fractures.
Composition
Each tablet contains 70 mg of alendronic acid, as well as suitable excipients for its formulation. It is important to consult the product leaflet for detailed information on additional components.
Contraindications
Oxivag is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to alendronic acid or to any of the excipients of the product. It should not be used in patients with esophageal problems that make swallowing difficult or in those with untreated hypocalcemia. Its use during pregnancy and lactation is also contraindicated.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of gastric or duodenal ulcers, as well as in those with severe renal failure. It is important to carry out adequate medical monitoring to evaluate the response to treatment and the possible appearance of adverse effects. Likewise, an adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D should be ensured during treatment.
