Indications
Omeprazole is indicated for the treatment of various conditions related to excessive acid production in the stomach. It is used in the management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), as well as for the prevention and treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers. It is also effective in the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in combination with antibiotics, and is used in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Its action is based on the inhibition of the proton pump in the parietal cells of the stomach, resulting in a decrease in acid secretion.
Composition
Each capsule contains: Omeprazole 20 mg as active ingredient. Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, starch, talc, and gelatin.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to omeprazole or any of the components of the formulation. It should not be used in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to omeprazole or other proton pump inhibitors.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with severe liver diseases, as well as in those with vitamin B12 deficiency or at risk of osteoporosis. The need for additional studies to rule out gastric neoplasms should be evaluated before starting treatment, especially if symptoms persist.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children.
