Indications

Olanzapine is indicated for the treatment of psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. In patients with schizophrenia, olanzapine helps control symptoms by reducing episodes of psychosis. In the case of bipolar disorder, it is used for the treatment of manic and mixed episodes. In addition, it can be used as part of maintenance treatment to prevent relapses in these disorders. Olanzapine works by modulating the activity of neurotransmitters in the brain, which helps stabilize mood and improve the perception of reality.

Composition

Each tablet contains 5 mg of olanzapine as the active ingredient and excipients: lactose monohydrate, corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and others.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to olanzapine or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in patients with a history of severe adverse reactions to other antipsychotics. It should also be avoided in patients with angle-closure glaucoma and in those with severe liver diseases.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when administering olanzapine to patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, or those who show signs of liver dysfunction. It is important to monitor patients for possible adverse effects such as excessive sedation, weight gain, and metabolic changes. During treatment, the patient's mental and physical status should be periodically evaluated, and dosage adjustments should be made if necessary.

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
