Indications

Moxifloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that belongs to the fluoroquinolone class. It is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections in different locations, including:

  • Acute respiratory infections, including community-acquired pneumonia.
  • Skin and soft tissue infections.
  • Complicated intra-abdominal infections.
  • Urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis.

Due to its mechanism of action, Moxifloxacin is effective against a variety of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as some anaerobes. It is important to perform a culture and sensitivity test to determine the susceptibility of the causative organism.

Composition

Each bag of Moxifloxacin contains:

  • Moxifloxacin: 400 mg
  • Excipients: water for injection, hydrochloric acid, among others.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or other antibiotics of the fluoroquinolone class.
  • History of tendinopathy related to fluoroquinolone use.
  • Pregnancy and lactation, unless specifically indicated by a doctor.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of epilepsy, impaired renal function, and those taking medications that may affect QT interval prolongation. Adequate monitoring is recommended in these cases.

Storage

Store at room temperature, in a dry place protected from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
