Indications
Mexapin Suspension is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by ampicillin-sensitive microorganisms. These include, among others, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, and some skin and soft tissue infections. It is also used in the treatment of bacterial meningitis and for the prophylaxis of endocarditis in patients with certain heart conditions before surgical procedures. Ampicillin acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, resulting in the death of susceptible bacteria.
Composition
Each 5 ml of suspension contains: Ampicillin (as trihydrate) 250 mg. Excipients: Xanthan gum, potassium sorbate, purified water, among others.
Contraindications
Mexapin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ampicillin, other antibiotics of the penicillin group, or any of the components of the formula. It should also be avoided in individuals with a history of severe allergic reactions, such as anaphylaxis, to drugs of the same class.
Precautions
It should be used with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, especially colitis. Renal function should be evaluated in patients who may have impaired drug elimination. Likewise, monitoring for the appearance of allergic reactions during treatment is recommended. In case of severe diarrhea, discontinuation of treatment and appropriate medical evaluation should be considered.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light and out of reach of children. The suspension should be used within one month after preparation and should not be frozen.
