Indications
Mevicfor is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control. It is especially useful in overweight patients and in those who present intolerance to other antidiabetic medications. It can also be used in combination with other oral antidiabetics or insulin, when monotherapy is not sufficient to achieve adequate blood glucose control.
In addition, metformin has been shown to have beneficial effects on the lipid profile, which may contribute to the reduction of cardiovascular risk in diabetic patients. Regular blood glucose monitoring is recommended to adjust the dose as needed, as well as the evaluation of renal function before and during treatment.
Composition
Each Mevicfor tablet contains 850 mg of metformin as metformin hydrochloride.
Contraindications
Mevicfor is contraindicated in patients with known allergy to metformin or to any of the components of the formula. Likewise, it should not be used in patients with severe renal insufficiency, lactic acidosis, or in conditions that may cause severe dehydration. It is not recommended in patients with acute or chronic diseases that compromise renal function.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of pancreatitis, hepatic or renal insufficiency, as well as in those undergoing surgical procedures or studies that require iodinated contrast. During treatment, renal function should be periodically evaluated.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
