Indications
Methotrexate is indicated in the treatment of various neoplastic diseases, such as leukemias, lymphomas, and solid tumors. It is also used in autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and severe psoriasis. This medication works by inhibiting DNA synthesis and cell proliferation, which makes it effective in reducing tumor growth and immune system activity in pathological conditions. It is essential to follow the treating physician's instructions to determine the dose and duration of treatment, as well as the need for regular monitoring during its use.
Composition
Each Methotrexate tablet contains 2.5 mg of methotrexate as the active ingredient. Additionally, it may contain excipients that facilitate its formulation and stability.
Contraindications
The use of Methotrexate is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to methotrexate or any of its components. It should not be administered in cases of severe renal insufficiency, active or chronic liver diseases, or in patients with active infections or in an immunosuppressed state. Furthermore, it is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation, unless strictly necessary and under medical supervision.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of gastric or intestinal ulcers, as well as in those receiving concomitant treatments that may affect renal or liver function. Regular monitoring of hematological and functional parameters is essential during Methotrexate treatment. Live vaccines should be avoided during treatment due to the risk of infections.
