Indications
Methylphenidate is indicated for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children, adolescents, and adults. This medication acts as a central nervous system stimulant, helping to improve attention, concentration, and impulse control. It is also used in some cases of narcolepsy, a sleep disorder that causes extreme daytime sleepiness. Its use must be supervised by a physician, who will evaluate the patient's response and adjust the dosage as needed.
Composition
Each tablet contains 10 mg of methylphenidate as the active ingredient. Excipients include starch, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and other inactive components that facilitate the formulation of the medication.
Contraindications
Methylphenidate is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to methylphenidate or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be administered to individuals with a history of substance abuse, glaucoma, pheochromocytoma, or those with severe anxiety disorders, agitation, or motor and vocal tics.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering methylphenidate to patients with a history of psychiatric disorders, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, or epilepsy. Regular medical monitoring is important to assess treatment effectiveness and detect possible adverse effects. Additionally, concomitant use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) is recommended to be avoided due to the risk of adverse interactions.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
