Indications

Metformin is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, particularly in overweight patients who cannot achieve adequate blood glucose control through diet and exercise. It can also be used in combination with other oral antidiabetics or insulin to improve glycemic control. Additionally, its use has been studied in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to improve ovulation and insulin sensitivity.

Composition

Each tablet contains 750 mg of metformin (as metformin hydrochloride). Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, colloidal silicon dioxide.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to metformin or any of the excipients, severe renal insufficiency (GFR < 30 ml/min), metabolic acidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and in situations of severe dehydration, severe infections, or in the perioperative period (when the use of iodinated contrast media is required).

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with moderate renal insufficiency, liver diseases, or those who consume excessive alcohol. Regular monitoring of renal function and blood glucose is important during treatment. In the case of surgical procedures or radiology with contrast, treatment should be temporarily suspended.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
