Indications

Messeldazol (Metronidazole) is indicated for the treatment of bacterial and parasitic infections. It is effective against infections caused by anaerobes, including bacteria such as Clostridium difficile, Bacteroides fragilis, and Fusobacterium. Additionally, it is used in the treatment of protozoal infections, such as amebiasis, giardiasis, and trichomoniasis. It is also prescribed for the management of gynecological infections, such as bacterial vaginosis and cervicitis caused by Trichomonas vaginalis. This medication acts by inhibiting the synthesis of nucleic acids in susceptible microorganisms, leading to cell death.

Metronidazole is especially useful in patients with mixed infections, where an effective antimicrobial approach is required. It can be used as an adjuvant treatment in patients with complicated peptic ulcers due to infections. Its efficacy extends to some cases of bacterial endocarditis and intra-abdominal abscesses, always in combination with other antibiotics to cover the total spectrum of microorganisms present.

Composition

Each Messeldazol tablet contains 500 mg of Metronidazole as an active ingredient, as well as excipients that facilitate its formulation and administration. It is essential to follow the doctor's instructions to ensure correct dosage and treatment duration.

Contraindications

It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to metronidazole or any of the excipients in the formula. Its use should also be avoided in the first trimester of pregnancy and in patients with severe liver diseases, as it can alter the drug's metabolism.

Precautions

Caution is recommended in patients with a history of neurological disorders, as metronidazole can cause adverse effects such as peripheral neuropathy. Furthermore, it should be used with caution in patients with central nervous system diseases. It is important to have medical follow-up during treatment and avoid alcohol consumption, as it can cause severe adverse reactions.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at room temperature, protected from light and out of reach of children. The expiration date is indicated on the package and it should not be used after this date.
