Indications
Meropenem is indicated for the treatment of serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. It is used in the management of complicated intra-abdominal infections, lower respiratory tract infections, central nervous system infections, as well as complicated skin and soft tissue infections. It is also used in the treatment of sepsis and in patients with febrile neutropenia. Meropenem is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including strains resistant to other antibiotics.
Composition
Each vial contains 1g of Meropenem. Excipients are: citric acid, sodium hydroxide, and water for injection.
Contraindications
Meropenem is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to meropenem, other carbapenem antibiotics, or any of the excipients present in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to beta-lactam antibiotics.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with renal insufficiency, as dose adjustment may be necessary. Likewise, adequate monitoring is recommended in patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases, especially colitis. In case of allergic reactions or adverse effects, treatment should be immediately discontinued and a doctor consulted.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15°C and 30°C, in a dry place protected from light. Do not freeze. Once reconstituted, the product must be used within 24 hours if kept at a controlled temperature.
