Indications
Macrofurin is indicated for the treatment of urinary tract infections caused by microorganisms susceptible to nitrofurantoin. It is commonly used to treat acute and chronic cystitis, as well as other uncomplicated urinary infections. This medication works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, which contributes to the eradication of the pathogens responsible for the infection. It is important to note that Macrofurin's efficacy is limited to certain types of bacteria, so a culture and antibiogram are recommended before starting treatment.
Composition
Each Macrofurin capsule contains 100 mg of nitrofurantoin. It also contains excipients such as corn starch, gelatin, and colorants.
Contraindications
Macrofurin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to nitrofurantoin or any of the product's excipients. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe renal insufficiency, interstitial lung disease, and in those with hematological conditions that may aggravate the drug's toxicity. Its use is not recommended during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester, and in neonates younger than one month.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of lung diseases, as prolonged use of nitrofurantoin can lead to pulmonary fibrosis. Likewise, renal function should be evaluated before starting treatment, as the drug is mainly eliminated by the kidneys. It is advisable to monitor liver and hematological function during prolonged treatment.

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. Keep out of reach of children.
