Indications

Losartan is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults. It is also used to reduce the risk of stroke in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy, and for the treatment of nephropathy in type 2 diabetic patients with proteinuria. Its mechanism of action is based on the antagonism of angiotensin II receptors, which causes vasodilation and a decrease in blood pressure.

Composition

Each tablet contains:

  • Losartan potassium: 50 mg
  • Excipients: starch, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, among others.

Contraindications

It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to losartan or to any of the excipients in the formula. It should not be administered to patients with a history of angioedema related to previous treatments with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It is also contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.

Precautions

Caution is recommended in patients with renal artery stenosis, renal or hepatic insufficiency, and in those with volume or electrolyte depletion. Renal function and potassium levels should be monitored in patients receiving this medication.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
