Indications

Losartan is indicated for the treatment of arterial hypertension in adults. It is also used to reduce the risk of stroke in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy, as well as for the treatment of nephropathy in type 2 diabetic patients. This medication works by blocking angiotensin II receptors, resulting in the dilation of blood vessels and a reduction in blood pressure.

Composition

Each tablet contains 50 mg of losartan potassium, as well as excipients q.s. (quantum sufficit) to form the tablet.

Contraindications

Losartan is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to losartan or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in patients with a history of angioedema related to previous treatments with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It is also contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation, as well as in patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis or those with severe renal failure.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when administering Losartan to patients with a history of liver failure, as the dosage may require adjustment. Likewise, it is recommended to monitor renal function in patients receiving diuretics or in those with conditions that may affect renal perfusion. Patients with diabetes mellitus who are being treated with medications that affect the renin-angiotensin system should be carefully monitored.

Storage

Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C, in a dry place protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
