Indications

Losartan is indicated for the treatment of high blood pressure in adults and children over 6 years of age. It is also used to reduce the risk of stroke in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy. Likewise, it is prescribed for the treatment of heart failure and for renal protection in type 2 diabetic patients with proteinuria. This medication works by blocking angiotensin II receptors, which results in blood vessel dilation and, consequently, a decrease in blood pressure.

Composition

Each tablet contains: Losartan (as losartan potassium) 50 mg. Excipients: lactose, starch, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate.

Contraindications

Losartan is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to losartan or any of the excipients in the formulation. It is also contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as in patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis or those with a single functional kidney affected.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of angioedema, renal insufficiency, and in those who are being treated with potent diuretics. It is important to monitor blood pressure and renal function during treatment. The use of losartan in combination with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors is not recommended in patients with diabetes mellitus.

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children.
