Indications

Leflunomide is indicated for the treatment of active rheumatoid arthritis in adults. This medication acts as an immunosuppressant, inhibiting the proliferation of T and B lymphocytes, which helps reduce inflammation and joint damage associated with this disease. Additionally, it is used in juvenile idiopathic arthritis in patients aged 2 years and older. Leflunomide may be considered in patients who have not responded adequately to other treatments, including methotrexate.

It is important that the use of leflunomide be supervised by a specialist physician, who will determine the appropriate dose and necessary follow-up for each patient.

Composition

Each Leflunomide tablet contains 20 mg of leflunomide as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients that ensure the stability and effectiveness of the medication.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to leflunomide or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women, or in patients with severe liver disease or severe renal insufficiency.

Precautions

Liver function tests are recommended before and during treatment with leflunomide. It is essential to monitor blood pressure and hematological function due to the risk of adverse effects. Patients should be informed about signs of toxicity, and treatment discontinuation should be considered if severe adverse effects occur.
