Indications

Lactulose is indicated for the treatment of occasional constipation and for the prevention and treatment of hepatic encephalopathy. This medication acts as an osmotic laxative, increasing the amount of water in the intestine, which facilitates bowel movement. In addition, it helps reduce the absorption of ammonia in the intestine, which is beneficial for patients with liver disease.

Its use is recommended in patients who require relief from constipation, as well as in those who need proper management of hepatic encephalopathy, under medical supervision.

Composition

Each 100 ml of Lactulose contains 66.7 g of lactulose as the active ingredient. Excipients: purified water.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lactulose or any of the excipients. It should also be avoided in cases of intestinal obstruction, intestinal perforation, or severe inflammatory bowel disease.

Precautions

Caution is advised in patients with diabetes mellitus, as lactulose can affect blood glucose levels. Appropriate monitoring is important in patients with kidney or heart problems. The doctor should be informed in case of adverse effects or unusual symptoms during treatment.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at room temperature, protected from light and out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
