Indications
Klarix is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by clarithromycin-susceptible microorganisms. It is used in the treatment of upper and lower respiratory tract infections, such as sinusitis, pharyngitis, and bronchitis. It is also indicated for skin and soft tissue infections. Additionally, it is used in the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with peptic ulcers, in combination with other medications. Clarithromycin is effective against various strains of gram-positive bacteria and some gram-negative microorganisms, as well as certain atypical pathogens.
Composition
Each Klarix tablet contains 250 mg of clarithromycin as the active ingredient. Excipients: corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
Klarix should not be administered to patients with known hypersensitivity to clarithromycin or any of the excipients. It is contraindicated in patients receiving therapy with ergotamine or dihydroergotamine due to the risk of toxicity. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of QT interval prolongation or severe liver diseases.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with renal insufficiency or liver disease, as well as in those who are being treated with other drugs that may interact with clarithromycin. Renal function monitoring is recommended in elderly patients and in those receiving prolonged treatments. Additionally, the risk-benefit ratio should be evaluated in patients with a history of cardiac arrhythmias.
