Indications

Iron Dextran is indicated for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia in patients who cannot receive oral iron or who require rapid treatment for the correction of iron levels. This medication is particularly useful in cases of intestinal malabsorption, inflammatory bowel disease, or in patients who have experienced significant blood loss. It is also used in situations where rapid iron administration is required, such as in patients with acute or chronic hemorrhages.

Composition

Each ampoule of Iron Dextran contains 100 mg of iron (as iron dextran) in a sterile solution.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to iron dextran or any of the components of the formula. It should not be administered in cases of iron overload or hemochromatosis. Likewise, its use should be avoided in patients with non-iron deficiency anemia, such as hemolytic anemias or anemias of chronic diseases.

Precautions

Iron Dextran should be used with caution in patients with a history of asthma, atopic dermatitis or other allergic diseases, as well as in those with heart or kidney diseases. Intravenous administration should be performed under the supervision of a healthcare professional, as adverse reactions, including anaphylaxis, may occur. It is important to monitor iron levels and liver function during treatment.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
