Indications
Gliozac is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is used as monotherapy or in combination with metformin or sulfonylureas in patients who do not achieve adequate blood glucose control. Pioglitazone acts as a PPAR-γ agonist, resulting in increased insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues, as well as a reduction in hepatic glucose production.
Composition
Each Gliozac tablet contains 15 mg of pioglitazone as active ingredient. Excipients: lactose monohydrate, corn starch, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
Gliozac is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pioglitazone or any of the excipients in the formula. It should not be administered to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. It is also contraindicated in patients with symptomatic congestive heart failure.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of heart failure, as the use of pioglitazone may be associated with an increased risk of edema and fluid retention. Regularly monitor liver function and consider discontinuing treatment if significant elevations of transaminases occur. Its use is not recommended in patients with a history of bladder cancer.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
