Indications

Glimepiride is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, in combination with diet and exercise, when metformin monotherapy does not provide adequate blood glucose control. This medication works by stimulating insulin secretion from the pancreas and increasing insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues, which contributes to the reduction of blood glucose levels. It is important to note that glimepiride should not be used in type 1 diabetes mellitus or in diabetic ketoacidosis.

Composition

Each tablet contains 4 mg of glimepiride as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients such as lactose, starch, and talc.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to glimepiride or to any of the components of the formula, as well as in those with type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe hepatic or renal insufficiency, and during pregnancy and lactation.

Precautions

Special care should be taken in patients with a history of liver or kidney disease, as well as in those with malnutrition, alcoholism, or acute infections. It is advisable to monitor blood glucose levels regularly, especially at the start of treatment. In case of hypoglycemic symptoms, immediate action should be taken.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
