Indications

Gentamicin is indicated for the treatment of severe bacterial infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. It is used in respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin infections, and in cases of septicemia. Additionally, it is effective in patients with intra-abdominal infections and osteomyelitis. This antibiotic is particularly useful in the treatment of infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Composition

Each 160 mg/2 ml Gentamicin ampoule contains 160 mg of gentamicin as the active ingredient, as well as excipients necessary for its formulation.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to gentamicin or other aminoglycosides. It should not be administered to patients with pre-existing conditions that compromise renal function or those with a history of neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis. Its use should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation unless strictly necessary and under medical supervision.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when using Gentamicin in patients with a history of kidney disease, severe dehydration, or those receiving other potentially nephrotoxic medications. Monitoring serum drug levels is recommended to avoid toxicity. In pediatric and elderly patients, dose adjustment is suggested due to the risk of toxicity.
