Indications
Genoprazol 20 mg is indicated for the treatment of various conditions related to excessive gastric acid production. It is used in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), where gastric contents return to the esophagus, causing symptoms such as heartburn and discomfort. It is also indicated in the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, as well as in the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in combination with antibiotics to reduce ulcer recurrence. In addition, it is used in the treatment of erosive esophagitis caused by continuous exposure to stomach acid.
Composition
Each capsule contains 20 mg of omeprazole as the active ingredient. The excipients used in the formulation are: hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, titanium dioxide, and other excipients that allow for the correct dissolution and absorption of the medication.
Contraindications
Genoprazol is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to omeprazole or any of the components of the formula. It should not be used in combination with certain medications such as clopidogrel, as it may decrease its effectiveness. Caution should be exercised in patients with moderate to severe hepatic insufficiency, as well as in those with a history of liver diseases.
Precautions
It is advisable to make an adequate diagnosis before starting treatment with Genoprazol, as the symptoms of ulcers or gastroesophageal reflux can hide more serious conditions. Constant monitoring is suggested in patients requiring prolonged treatment, as well as evaluation of renal and hepatic function. In case of alarming symptoms, such as unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting, or gastrointestinal bleeding, treatment should be discontinued and a doctor consulted.
