Indications

Genkova is indicated for the treatment of severe bacterial infections caused by microorganisms susceptible to gentamicin. It is commonly used for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, sepsis, and meningitis, among others. This medication is especially effective in the treatment of Gram-negative bacterial infections, as well as some Gram-positive bacterial infections when used in combination with other antibacterials. It is important to perform an antibiogram to confirm the microorganism's sensitivity to gentamicin treatment.

Composition

Each Genkova ampoule contains: Gentamicin 80 mg in 2 ml of injectable solution.

Contraindications

Genkova is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to gentamicin or other aminoglycosides. It should not be administered in cases of severe kidney damage or when neuromuscular disorders are present that could worsen the effect of the medication.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with renal dysfunction, as gentamicin is primarily excreted by the kidneys. It is important to monitor renal function during treatment. It is recommended to evaluate hearing and vestibular function, as gentamicin can cause ear toxicity. Avoid concomitant administration with other medications that may affect renal function or have ototoxic potential.
